    I thought about making a lap blanket in local school colors for football or soccer season then making a besded bag for it to get folded up and put into with a pocket for tumbler will make great gifts because maybe even for the pro games. I made a blanket where the beads were part of the fringe so all I can say to wash delicate cycle and dryer is low heat or just fluff and then lay out to finish drying... I lay mine on my spare bed then the beads don't pull to much

    in my experience, red heart super saver feels incredibly scratchy while working with the yarn, but once the piece is finished, washed, and dried, it becomes just as soft as any other mid-range acrylic yarn. even still, I almost wonder if yarn size 3 would have been better for this project due to how small the hook needs to be for the beads, to reduce some of the fabric stiffness you mentioned

      I just tried feeding a bead through with a 3.5mm but it was a bit tricky . For the hdc rows it would be fine, of course, but I think you’ll be happier with a 3mm for the bead rows.

    I have one concern with these weighted blankets. How much stretch will the yarn have over time, and what could be done to reduce that. I've had people use acrylic shopping bags that stretch a LOT before they knew it they had to use the bags pretty much to carry light weight items only like cereals, crackers, and other light weight items. The heavier items put in the bag exaggerated the stretch of the acrylic so bad that heavier items, even in small amounts of potato or apples, caused the stretch to be so extreme the bags were almost reaching the floor to make the bag nearly useless in that application. So maybe a mercerized cotton carried with or another sturdier yarn to help prevent the big stretch that could sneak up real fast, or does anyone know of a nice sturdy acrylic bland that could work well for this? I think this is a GREAT blanket that could benefit a lot of people, but I do have concern for the work that goes into it not holding up more than a year or two.

    • @PlayHookywithMe
      @PlayHookywithMe День тому

      Like I mentioned in the video, the yarn I used was very stiff when worked up so if you’re looking for durability for a bag , this yarn would work. However, my personal approach would be to use a cotton blend rather than acrylic alone to maintain shape. I always use cotton for bags /purses. But a cotton acrylic blend would be ideal for a blanket. That’s just my opinion. I’d love to know what others think.

    • @nharber9837
      @nharber9837 21 годину тому

      If you’re concerned about stretch, I would recommend cotton. I made all my shopping bags from cotton yarn, and they stand up very well, and haven’t stretched much over the years of daily abuse. I changed my handle method, though, once one showed wear at the handle connection. Now I drop a hook size, and do a long loop that folds and goes all the way under the bag and comes back up to be both shoulder straps, and I stitch a piece of bias tape or heavy duty ribbon inside for even more handle stability before attaching the handles. I’m able to throw a 25lb frozen turkey in one and carry it across the parking lot and up the stairs like a purse with these and they don’t even act like they noticed once the turkey is removed.

    • @PlayHookywithMe

      Maybe the red heart other than super saver is better. I’m not sure … but yes the scratchi-ness of it is even moreso with this than wool for me . Years ago , before it was so easy to order online , I would pop it in the dryer with softener sheets. That helped but it shouldn’t be necessary. There are other inexpensive yarn that isn’t nearly this scratchy. I don’t understand. It’s a shame because I love that you can easily pull the yarn from the center.

    I think I got what is meant with pony bead. I'm not shure how we call it in Germany. I would like to crochet and knit more with beads for my selfmade clothes... But didn't do because I am afraid of what happens after taking out of washing maschine... Those pony beads look to me like "holding" the colours. To me most beads seem to fade colours out and may give the colours to my skirt or whatever and ruins my art ( 😨 I hope you can get my thoughts with that english 😬 )

I’d recommend fleece because it’s easy to hand sew on 👍🏻💕 Washing: You can wash this in your washer on a gentle cycle with warm water and then air dry. This is how I read Jess handles it. I would wash this inside something else-- a pillowcase or net bag of some sort. I shudder at the thought of a bead breaking and goobering up my washer!

    You did such a better job explaining this than I did. I couldn't find the original creator on tiktok so just mention where it came from. I'll have to go add it in the comments.
